I effed up on my written agreement and found myself in an infinite-revision death-cycle with a client. I'd like to find out from others how to prevent this in the future.
I prefer the simplicity of a flat quote for a well-defined project… But then the number of revisions and changes start to creep upwards. And then when you think you're done, they say, "Never mind, look at example.com, make it look like that."
How do you define what constitutes a "major" or "minor" change in your agreements?
It felt liberating at first getting away from hourly billing, as that gave me anxiety about the hours it took to come to a design that fit well. How do you bill hourly for work that can take such a variable number of hours — sometimes hitting the right design the first time and other times needing five major revisions, never sure if it's because the client was indecisive or if you were really that far off the mark…
What is your solution to making the weird process of billing for creative work fair for both parties?
