I often do free websites for charities, community groups, and even sometimes in exchange for things (made a DJ a website in return for his services). I only charge them for the domain and then hosting and usually use a template on WordPress so that it doesn't take long and beefs up my portfolio.
Besides the obvious advice to not make them in exchange for things without a contract and etc. how successful have you been at giving out websites for advertisement and etc.?
