Whenever I've done website work, I've always created something from scratch - as in the client never had any existing website.
I just took on a family member's already established website and they are paying an incredibly high fee at their current host that uses vDeck4. They are low on funds, so I told them I'd host it on mine for a year, mine uses CPanel. He has a wordpress, and the entire structure of his site is messy and filled with numerous stages of their website over the decade (including outdated plugins), and various stages created by different people and WYSIWYG. I tried doing a .zip download of all his files and copying his database, but then when I install it on my host, I get a "Your website xyz.com may have been hacked". Then today, my family member gets a message saying that "There are malicious files on your account".
I got the OK from my family member to do a clean install of wordpress, and just rebuild their simple site. What would be the best thing to do? Sift through the files, or just recreate? What about my hosting and the message I received, should I be worried?
Also, I've never used one hosting to host two websites. Am I doing this correctly? I do an addon domain, name it xyz.com, make the document root to public_html/xyz, install wordpress, then point their domain to my nameservers? I need to reference the old one while I create the new one, how do I go about doing that? Because once I change the name server it'll point xyz.com to a blank wordpress.
Sorry, I just need some guidance to get my head on straight. It doesn't help that there is a looming deadline on the site renewing.
