Contacted to re-design and re-code a company website. Good at coding, no design skills. Advice?

I was referred by someone I used to work with to a company looking to update their existing website. I haven't done freelance yet so I'll probably give them a discount but I want to do this right.

They would like a new design. It's running on WP now and is slow as molasses. I'm happy to get rid of WP and code something more optimized in Ruby or JS that will be 20x faster.

Their website is quite simple: a home page, about us, a couple other static pages. They want me to implement a contact form and a news section they can maintain.

My problem is with design. I have zero design skills. I can't be the only one, how should I go about it? They have a freelance designer looking after their brand image, would it be unprofessional to suggest he comes up with a design and I'll implement it while overhauling the code?

Thanks,

Epic visual tool
