Is there an quicker way to view updates on a website than my current process?

I've been doing front-end dev for a while, but I'm sure my development process is outdated. Is there a quicker, more efficient way of updating/coding a website? Whenever I'm working on a site, I usually do it directly on my server via FTP and the process goes something like this:

  • Update code on a file via NotePad++ connected to FileZilla
  • Save file, hit okay to upload file back to server
  • View new changes in browser
  • Perform tweaks to html/css on browser via developer tools
  • Go back into NotePad++ and repeat the process

Is there a faster way to preview changes made to code without having to upload the file/refresh the browser page every time something is updated? I'm pretty used to this process, but I can't help to think of all the time I've wasted uploading files/refreshing the page after every small change. I'm sure there's software that gives you a live preview, but I'm clueless where to start looking.

I'm on Windows, but post up any Mac OS apps as well. I will probably make the switch if it saves me a ton of time during development.

Epic visual tool
