Hi everyone, I am hoping to set up a free website for my computer business. Here's the catch, I had a website and a copyright bot found a small .jpg image that had been copyrighted by a scamming company and was sued for $10,000. This company bought images and searched the web for them, then filing lawsuits against people using the images. Since then I have not had a website up and working. So here is my question:
I installed Wordpress and have a functional site working. I used the "Vantage" theme by SiteOrigin - its free. Are all the images, icons, and text open and free to use? I do NOT want to be using someone else's work and be sued again.
What about free widgets right from the Wordpress plugins? If they have icons and photos in them, are they all legal and fair use as well?
My assumption is any free theme or plugin on Wordpress is open licensed? If anyone had any easy to understand reading material they could link I'm more than willing to read. Fair Use seems to be a very vague topic. Any information helps, thanks!
