Does dropping "www" in URL change pagerank?

I'm helping my cousin redo his business website which he's had for several years and currently has pagerank 1. If I drop the www part will it hurt his pagerank?

Also it has ssl and typing website.com requires it to redirect twice (website.com to http://www.website.com to https://www.website.com). Is there a way to improve this situation?
