Two quick questions about displaying author avatar's

Hi Beginner questions:

On my wordpress site when a list of posts is displayed, it includes an author avatar alongside each posts. See here > www.golegal.co.za

Some of authors have no avatar (or no author). In those cases it displays an empty frame. Is there some CSS I can add to collapse that frame when there is no avatar?

Next question. On the article page itself, it is NOT showing the author avatar, but it used to show it in the past (under the article where it displays the author bio). I suspect some conflicting CSS. If its easy for someone experienced to detect the problem that would be most appreciated.
