Background: My mom has a small wordpress site which was set up 5 years ago by a friend. Typical sections like Family pics, blogposts, etc. Shes been adding content for a while in 2011 but didn't do much since then. Design-wise, it now looks very dated and she wants to have a "relaunch".
Now, as a surprise for her (and sharpen my WP skills), I would like to update the site etc. However, I don't have admin access (and don't want to ask her to spoil the surprise). So basically change things and then present it to her and if she approves, upload the new desing.
Should I build a new site from scratch or can I somehow "download" the current site and change things? Sorry if this is a stupdi question, I am a webdesign beginner.
