I got myself involved with another shady design internship. Do I have a low or high expectations? Stay or go?

I'm interning at web design studio that has some decent work. The CEO [whom is also the lead web designer] said he would pay me after a couple of months after working under his guidance 30 hours a week. He said the minimum to interning there was 20. A day later, I found out that everyone who worked there was an intern [6 interns] who have worked there for a year. I didn't like that because I felt as if he was lying to me.

Right now he has me working on his social media marketing strategies to attract more clients. He wanted me to make a campaign that involves the interns asking the public about branding guidelines because we are in the process of creating them [which I felt was a weird idea]. He finds clients via Upwork and refuses to network with his past clients.

Should I leave or stay? I just don't understand this place. I just want to get better.
