tl;dr How to prevent potential clients from dropping like flies.
I design posters/album art/flyers for small-time musicians and bands. I clearly need some tips on interacting with potential clients. I have tried everything, from a simple "yes" to detailed paragraphs regarding the work to be performed. But I still get left hanging many times after a simple back and forth.
I was recently contacted by a major label to design merch for a band's upcoming tour. This particular band also happens to be my favorite band ever. Their message was very casual and I responded to obviously accept the job.
Here is their message: "Hey there. We’ve seen your ** band name ** designs on your instagram… Wondering if you’d like to have a go a sending through some designs for our touring merchandise?"
My response: "Absolutely. I'm obviously a fan, so this is a lovely email to receive. Obviously, the designs that I've already published are up for grabs, and if you'd like some new ones, I'm more than ready to hit the drawing board."
Nothing since. This is a repetitive trend. The lone message is the only thing I have received from them. Again, I am small time and just started doing this. How can I help ensure a response next time something like this comes my way? I am tired of getting requests for work only to never hear from them again.
Please give me some advice. Thank you.
