Bear with me while I ask probably the most basic web design questions ever (but don't know how to phrase them to come up with answers in Google).
I really want to learn to code and make websites. I know basic HTML and am introducing myself to CSS. I got a Wordpress account so I can fiddle around with building my own webpage but then notice that wordpress uses PHP, which makes me feel like learning HTML and CSS is not as beneficial as I thought and am now trying to figure out PHP.
I have no idea anymore what I should focus on. Someone told me to spend a few hours and I'll be able to learn Wordpress...it's starting to feel like I'll need to spend a year learning how to code before I can actually make a decent website on Wordpress. Where should I be focusing my effort? HTML+CSS first and then PHP? Or PHP only?
In your opinion, would someone who is as beginner as myself benefit from taking some courses or is it something that can be self taught (and save some money)? I'm finding even some of the beginner resources are out of my scope!
EDIT: If you do think I should take a course and know of any that are good please let me know :)
