I'll try to be brief with this:
Last year in November, this local restaurant got scammed by this company that provided a shitty outdated POS system and a VERY bad menu design for her restaurant. I couldn't do anything with the POS system but offered to redesign her menu to standards that she approved of and liked. I told her my hourly pay ($35/hr), she accepted.
I finished the menu within a week but her crappy scheduling and lack of communication with me extended it over a couple months. Eventually, she approved, she paid, I handed over the menu design and packaged documents. I told her if she wanted any changes done to the menu that I'd charge her the regular $35/hr, regardless how long it takes. But since I'm still a student, I gave her a "grace"-like period where I'd make changes to the menu for free. This grace period was about two weeks, so any changes she wanted/needed after the two weeks was going to be charged.
After the grace period, I didn't hear from her about any changes on the menu for almost two months. A couple weeks back, she wanted things taken off the menu, some things changed, and some things added. I reminded her that she'd get charged for however long these changes she wanted took. She asked for a quote, but I told her there's no need for a quote since she already knows my hourly rate and based off of what she said, these changes shouldn't be long. She still wanted a quote so I just kinda went off the bat and told her the amount of 2 hours pay (plus tax). She accepted it, I made the changes, she approved, and she paid me.
NOW (about two weeks after making those changes), she just messaged me last night saying there's more changes she wants on the menu (price changes, re-naming, etc). But I'm getting this feeling that she keeps forgetting that I'll be charging her for any changes she needs on the menu. I'm feeling bad for having to charge her because I wasn't expecting her to want this many changes and I feel that if I keep charging her for these changes, she'll eventually get upset with me and simply demand I do it for free (if it comes to that, I'll just refuse my service to her). Should I stick to my guns and just keep charging her for any changes, or should I just give her another grace period and just not charge her?
In case you guys are wondering, these changes aren't any mistakes that I've done concerning the design of the menu. These changes are things she's deciding as she's carrying out her restaurant. She keeps changing names of her items based on how her customers tend to understand them, shes changing the prices based on how the customers react to the prices, etc.
I designed the menus for my parent's restaurant and my parents have never needed so many changes to the menu like this client. What do you guys think I should do? Tell her I'll be charging her for the changes, or just make the changes out of grace?
tl;dr - designed menu for client, gave client a grace period for any changes, after grace period any changes would be charged hourly - regardless on how long the changes take. Wasn't expecting her to want so many changes, now I feel a little bad for charging her for these changes.
