Usually people post about monster clients, but what about monster bosses?
I work for a small local business, assigned to develop four websites for each business this guy owns. In the beginning, it was pretty much the standard fair. A "consultation", design drafts, approvals, etc. Then within the last week or so things have just got real.... Freaky.
You see, the guy apparently used to dabble making websites in the 90s.
aka, he's an expert at websites.
I had a meeting with the guy since he changed the entire project scope from e-commerce development to straight content only brochure website. I went in to tell him that I need to go back to the drawing board and he basically took apart the current website (which he had me launch despite it not even being complete).
He, for some reason, knows how to load up developer tools but does not have a single goddamn idea on what to find either. He was bitching at me but then couldn't even figure out wtf he was doing. He kept going on about meta tags and seo and all this other crap which was like someone pounding my head with a couple of bricks.
He wanted me to throw up a Youtube video on the front page and a 1100 x 5380 ad he made in CorelDraw for the local newspaper. Not resized. Nothing. Just up there. He also want "image maps" to "link to the pictures of the products", shit that hasn't been done since 1998. I warned him against it but he said he didn't care. It's his site and he can do whatever he wants, essentially. As long as it looked nice on his computer then it was fine.
Now, if this was a client, I would have fired him ASAP. But he's not, he's my boss. My portfolio is going to be absolute shit. Do I quit and take my integrity with me or do I just ignore him and do whatever the fuck I want?
i am also not getting paid enough for this bullshit.
Here's a "drawing" of the website in question. I do not want to post it because he's my boss and I don't want problems.
