How do you design for retina display?

I was reading this article and it linked to this extremely long article and then my head exploded.

Basically, the author says you can just figure out the dimensions you need and design in 1x. He gives this handy chart to get your dimenions. http://ift.tt/1SG7Hah

Then, he gives some scripts to run to export the graphics as retina ready.

It seems overly complicated and I doubt most people are using a script they downloaded from Github to export their Retina-ready graphics, so I'm turning to Reddit to see what most people do. A lot of common, simpler solutions, seem to have issues with half-pixels, etc.

Epic visual tool
