Hey everyone, So this is obviously a throwaway account because I am not sure if I want to actually do this yet. But here is the situation that I am in. To start off I have about 2 years of unprofessional (learned on my own) experience in web design. I have accumulated free templates from around the web and most of my design works comes into play by understanding the code behind them and then developing them into custom static templates for individual clients by combining a few different templates.
In addition to this, I have also had a few clients who I have suggested that they get a template off of creativemarket or envatomarket; then allowing me to customize it from there and charging them a much lower price.
So my question is, is this what some professional web design companies do? I have been doing a bunch of research and I am not sure how a lot of devs do it now. I mean with the amount of content that is out there, it is almost easier for the client to pick out what they want, customize it, and then get paid for a few hours of work. But if they want custom content then I know how to put it together and place the customized SEO and background content together. Furthermore, I think this might be easier because I live in a medium sized "start-up" area and I think that the lower price could help my target market.
So I guess my questions are: Should I start a Small Business that allows clients to pick a theme they like and just customize it for them? Or should I stay away from that and stick to full scale website customization? How many of you do something similar? What's the ratio between custom sites and template sites?
