Should I Get a Pen Tablet?

(Note: This sub seemed the most appropriate to post this question in, tell me if there's another I should use.)

I've been trying to get into graphic design over the past year or so, and I'm really enjoying it. I've been wondering if it would be a good investment for me to get a pen tablet so I can have a more versatile input method. I'm currently looking at the Wacom Intuos, because I've read that its a good tablet for starters. My question is, for a novice like me, would a pen tablet be a good investment? Or, would I just be spending too much money on gear for someone with my skill level and time dedication?
