Question about Adobe Illustrator Textures

Hi all,

I'm used to using Illustrator, but wanting to add textures to my vector illustrations. I have some probably simple questions.

• Are there go-to ways you create textures within Adobe Illustrator? I manually fiddle around with layering gradients and hand drawn speckles. Are there quicker, easier ways to create texture?
• If I make the vector shapes and transport to Photoshop to add the texture does the image remain vectorised? I.e can I still expand it to any size or does the file format change once I edit in in photoshop?
