I'm in the process of building a new journal/notebook. While looking for a manufacturer and talking with another business, I was informed that another company has a design patent on their "signature gold ribbon" (the bookmark). The notebook I have been crafting has yellow design marks throughout the interior as well, so I was intending to manufacture my ribbon in a yellow-orange color.
My question is: do they have the rights to a single color (like a hex code or Pantone color) or do I have to stay away from all shades of yellow?
I tried searching for the patent, but all I could find were what looked like design specs, nothing color related.

I've noticed that sometimes inexperienced designers use flat design and minimalism as excuses for poor design choices.
A decent portion of the candidates I interview lately all use flat design for everything as if it s the only style or way to design something. I've grown biased about it thinking it's lazy form of design.
note: I don't think all of flat design is lazy. Nor do I think all flat illustration is easy by any means either. I think it's used as a scapegoat for bad design.
It's something that some designers use for a scapegoat.
What do you guys think? Has anyone else noticed this? Is flat design lazy design for student designers? For people working professionally, how would you guys feel about seeing a plethora of portfolios only showing flat/minimalisfic designs?

I backed Orilamp. It looked great to me. A simple block of wood that opens up to become a dimmable, Bluetooth controlled light. It looked great and did everything I wanted it to. Their seizur website and Facebook page are gone now, and they never delivered to Their backers.
Was there as alternative that was a simple attractive design with the same features? I'm trying to avoid some ugly our non-portable light for travel.

Hello! I have the oportunity to get an Intuos 3 for 25$ 6*8 vs an Intuos Pen and Touch small for 50$. I'm a beginner for digital drawing, and while I like the compact size and more modern look of the intuos pen and touch, I believe the Intuos 3 being cheaper and having better features makes it a better option? When I was stoned the other night I had an epiphany. I really want to be a graphic designer. When I was younger I always used to buy books just because of book cover or fonts used for chapter headings. I never used to read the books but the graphic design always attracted me.
Anyway, I have studied history at university so I have no graphic design degree which puts me at a great disadvantage. Furthermore, I don’t even know if I’m a good designer so I mocked some logos and stuff up the other night and was hoping you could critique my stuff or see if I am any good. Or have potential?

Hello! I have been thinking for a while to get a drawing tablet, but the main reason I didn't was due to price.
I have found someone selling a fully working Wacom Intuos 3 for 20$, should I get it? I am afraid of it being so old that it might have incompatibilities with the newest sotwares such as Windows 10 and photoshop cc 2015. Will I manage to find all the drivers/fixes for the tablet I need? Will it be a headache? Is it a good starter drawing tablet for this age? Thank you in advance!

A Dutch Reach is a technique of opening a car door using your opposite hand to encourage looking around for approaching traffic, including cyclists.
The placement of most car door latches seems to be ergonomically designed for easy use with the nearest hand.
If the handle was simply moved back along the door, then it would it awkward to use the nearest hand and encourage the use of the opposite hand.
What do you think? Could this work as a design?
