I think school buses having stop signs on them is terrible design.

I am talking about this. In America, when a school bus puts its stop sign out, all cars are supposed to remain stationary until the stop sign retracts back into the bus. This is for the safety of any children that may be entering or leaving the bus.

In every single other context, a stop sign means "Put your car into a complete stop, check for other cars, and then you are welcome to go again." If you don't remember that school buses are the exception to the rules, one could easily think that it's okay to come to a complete stop at a school bus, and continue on driving.

Why does a stop sign mean something totally different when it's on a school bus? It's just an accident waiting to happen. There should be something equivalent to a red light on there instead. Something like this with only the red part colored in.
