Advice on freelancing while working? Company thinks it's 'unfair'.

Hi guys,

I'm interested to know if/how people do freelance work as a side hustle while working as a designer at a company?

Does your company frown upon this? I have been stopped from working freelance for a mutual client which i understand, but have recently been told ALL graphic design work should be done through the company and that freelancing would be unfair to the company as I should refer them instead.

For context, i am a junior designer at a small development company that doesn't usually do graphic design work for clients, only when I am asked specifically by the client. Any advice on this matter is much appreciated!
