Hello! Beginner who got his first graphic tablet needs your help.

Hello /r/design. I recently got myself a graphic tablet which is the Ugee m708 (I liked its big screen and budget cost). I played around with it and I love it, however I am noticing small line marks on the surface of the tablet screen. They are happening because the pen is drawing on the surface. Is it normal/common? Will it destroy my tablet screen? Should I buy a screen guard or apply some plastic sheet? The line marks concentrate mostly on the middle of the tablet (that is my drawing area) and I'm sort of panicking. I read that graphic tablets last long and you just need to periodically change the nibs and you're good to go. However, the scratch marks on the screen worry me.
Also, what are some free software's that I can use? I want to teach math via screen recording (like Khan Academy videos) and the pen pressure on Clip Studio Paint makes the lines variable (I just lack proper pressure control haha). What software's are good for teaching purposes? Or should I get used to using Clip Studio Paint?

Need advice: show App Icons or Custom Images in a universal search?

Hi all,

I make a shortcuts app for Android called Sesame Search. Think of it like iOS universal search. Type a letter and get a bunch of direct shortcuts to stuff on your device.

We can now pull images for WhatsApp conversations but we’re not sure if we should display these images or the WhatsApp icon in our search.

Why we should show the images:

• It’s cool
• We have the data
• Users will probably ask us to show them
• App icons can get repetitive. E.g. if I type “W” i’ll see a whole series of WhatsApp icons

Why we shouldn’t show them:

• It might make it harder to quickly identify what the shortcut is
• We already show images for your contacts. These will be very similar to the images from WhatsApp (same persons face).
• Especially since the text will be very similar, they’ll both have the persons name. The difference will be the word “WhatsApp”.
• We know users are on mental auto pilot when searching and that App Icons are specifically used because they can be instantly recognized and processed by the brain without conscious thought.

In sum, we think it’s cool and users would ask for it but we also think a usability expert might say it introduces mental stress to people searching. Here's a screenshot of my dilemma. What's the right design decision?!?!

Why are pictures in restaurant menus considered tacky?

From a practical standpoint, pictures in restaurant menus are an extremely useful tool that serve to help the user make a choice and manage their expectations. This is, presumably, exactly the inteded function of a menu.

But one only ever sees pictures in the menus of cheap restaurants and fastfood joints.

Why?
