Would anyone like to take a bash at re-designing the symbols we use for gender?

This thread on /r/asktransgender has already spawned some interesting thoughts on /r/vexilology for new flags that better represent the transgender community as a whole, and I wondered if anyone here might want to tackle the symbols we use.

My personal objections to the current gender symbols are:

-They conflate sex and gender.

-They erase non-binary people.

-They haven't been changed since ancient Greece times.

-They are medical symbols.

-Current symbols for genders other than male and female are all based on the same principals as the symbols for male and female physical sex.

To be fair, there's a some great recognition for the transgender symbol, but that's about all it has going for it.
