Struggling to get going and landing a design job..

I currently finished a 6 month contract at a marketing company straight out of uni and have been looking for another graphic design job ever since.

I am UK based near the London so jobs wise it's very good for me. But I am struggling to land interviews for design Jobs.

I feel I have a strong starting portfolio gradually building onnit in my spare time. I also have html & CSS experience which is what most graphic design Jobs seem to want from my experience in looking.

Anywhere I should focus on looking websites etc? Currently looking on indeed mostly and big company sites like TUI, Tesco, etc.

Thanks guys!

Does anyone have some links to resources that I can use either for reference or training in regards to long-form content like book chapters and how they can be be best utilized on the web or on ebooks with different screen sizes? I am working with a client that wants to elegantly put long-form text online, but I am a at a bit of a loss.

Thanks so much for the help, please feel free to send anything my way, be it tutorials, examples, resources, tools, you name it - I'm interested!

Does anyone here have experience designing/selling tee shirts online?

I'd like to set up an online store with my designs, but I want to make sure the quality of the shirts themselves is high. I'm talking nice fit, comfy, not too scratchy. There don't seem to be many resources comparing Tee Spring to Cafe Press to Zazzle etc. etc. etc. Anyone have experience/advice with this sort of thing?

My student project might be adapted into the real world. How do I get compensated fairly?

Hey! So I just graduated college a few weeks ago and on a whim, I forwarded my student branding project to the restaurant I rebranded during my time at school (a local business), just to let them know it's out there and wondering if they wanted to take a look at it. They said they liked it and asked me to give them a call this week.

I wanted to prepare in case they were interested in wanting to adopt the branding, or parts of it (a logo, menu design, takeout packaging, and social media). I've been trying to ballpark something reasonable for both me as a grad trying to make money, and a small business with their first opportunity to have a solid, cohesive brand.

I figured I would ask some other designers about their experiences or what to consider/look out for. I've been looking over the Graphic Artists Guild handbook for advice, but I figured since restaurant branding is pretty common, this sub could have some good advice!

Print Jobs

I'm looking to get a job at a print shop this summer. The problem is I can't tell which job openings require significant experience. Obviously I can look at the description and avoid jobs that require more than 2 years of experience, but it would help if I could filter out jobs myself based on the title. Every time I google entry level or job types I'm just met by job search engines.

[Advice/Question] Need a theme idea/specific pictures for basic game board... Grade 12

Hi guys!

I have a grade 12 coding assessment where i'm tasked to create a very basic game board, both teams have 3 players each and have to defeat the other players or get more gems than the other team, scattered across the birds-eye viewed board.

My problem: I have no idea what I should grab online for my splash screen or background image for the theme of the game, i'm hopeless with theme ideas or design, even if its not myself creating the design, i'm awful with decision in general.

Any ideas? It will not be redistributed so as long as i acknowledge creator, copyright will not be an issue.

Thanks in advance!

Where can I find icons such as the ones below?

Fing, the network app uses these icons, and they look a bit generic and I was hoping there was an Icon pack out there someone knew of or recognized these from that I can make use of for these.

Thanks!

As a Senior UX Architect, I'm exploring ways of connecting with the newer UX crowd, or people thinking of getting into UX. Would you guys be interested in a live stream/chat of me giving you feedback on your designs?

We could do it on Twitch and people could join Discord. You could present your design/ideas and I could give feedback as well as others in chat could give you feedback. I would prefer not to give you free feedback on your products/businesses, but whatever I guess. It's all good.

So you don't feel all exposed, I can show some of my designs that the NDA has been lifted on and everyone can give feedback.

About Me:

As far as UX goes, I'm about as experienced as it gets. Steve Jobs was my manager for 3 years at Apple when I worked on the iPhone v1. Then Microsoft for Surface/Windows/XBOX, then Bloomberg, then Microsoft, now JPMorgan.

How to make your design stand out in case of generic and overused brand names?

Say I have a client who has a burger joint, John's Burger Joint. How do I make their identity (logo, typeface etc) stand out from thousands of burger joints that already have a burger icon in their logo? In other words, what Design decisions make an identity unique in common/over-used fields?

PS: I'm a newbie in Design and just wanted to discuss this, sorry if it is not the right place.

[Request] Beautiful redditors of r/Design, lend me your help!

I am currently working on a paper for my final exam, and I need some help finding a good online source for gestalt principles within design.

I am trying to link it with kids, creativity, education and subliminal design, where I have had two different middle school classes from different grades (which are kept anonymous) shade a drawing I gave them, just to see how they would do.
The drawing I did is very gestalt theoretic, with a lot of unfinished forms of faces and figures, and it was intention to see if the kids would not only actively try to find the figures, but also what they would emphasize.

I am asking for this as I have no good textbooks right now that can be easily referred to, and my deadline is approaching way faster than I was first informed.

If you want to see what sort of drawing it was, it was this one:
https://i.imgur.com/XnETRtk.png
As you can see, you can flip and rotate it as you want yourself, and still find new forms and faces. Can you see what I mean about it following gestalt principles, especially the "finishing principle"?

Thank you for your help, I deeply appreciate it.

(and if a mod finds this post unsuitable, then I may kindly ask for where I can go on reddit for this information.)
