I see this retro 80's motif used often, you know the one with a horizon made from a purple grid with various sun/moon/palm trees included but how often was it really used in the 80's?

Can anyone show me examples of the origin or ads or anything where this style was used? I just have a feeling it was super niche and a few years ago it was rediscovered and hyped up a bit for a retro resurgence. I really love the aesthetic, the concept of digital landscapes mixed with palm trees, neon, and distressed VHS look with slight RGB shifts on the edges really hits me in the nostalgia, even though the look may completely embellished from the reality I remember.
