Advice for working as a freelance designer and what to charge?

So I've been looking for a job as a Graphic designer for almost 6 month now. I might have the opportunity to work my first freelance/contract position in the meantime, which is to create a 100 page publication for a non-profit athletics club. I have some ideas of how to approach the project, create a general layout and then just feed all the copy through it and then have the client review everything as its created (I've worked on similar things in my last job so I'm confident I can do it). The thing is I've never worked freelance before and I have no idea what to charge them (if I charge hourly or give them a rate for the whole thing) or even how to write up a contract and what needs to be in it.

I was thinking maybe charging $20/hr but again I'm not sure if hourly would be the best way to go about this or if that is to high/low based on my skills (I graduated last year and have worked for about half a year at an agency).

I'm suppose to hear back from the client next week (as their out of town currently) and I would like to give them a general idea of price and contract details when I speak with them so we can set everything up.

I'm really nervous about this whole thing as its my first freelance job and I have no idea what to so some advice would be greatly appreciated.
