I have a hard time deciding on colours to use, does anyone have any tips?

Hi all, this is very basic so I'm not sure if I'm even asking in the correct sub.

I like to dabble in a range of different art & design projects, purely as a hobby, sketching, painting, soft furnishing etc.

Sometimes I find it so difficult to pick out colour combinations that I like, most of the time when I come up with a combination that works really well its just seems like pot luck.

Does anyone have any tips that could help me out? Thanks in advance!
