newbie here who tries illustration and character design

I bought a graphic tablet 2 weeks ago (have been drawing a bit on a very old one before) but just started really getting into illustration and how different artists work. There are plenty things I dont have problems with, like working with the core silhouette of my "art", but I really struggle learning to work with values by just trying it in greyscale works. Is there some educational content, books or youtube vids, which you perceive as very helpful and can suggest me to absorb. Thanks for the answers
