I assume most of you have seen this very interesting racial dot map of the U.S.. I was reading the about on the Virginia.edu website and noticed an interesting way to interpret data on the map using colors...
if a pixel contains a number of White (blue dots) and Asian (red dots) residents, the pixel will be colored a particular shade of purple according to the proportion of each within that pixel. Different shades of purple, teal, and other colors can therefore be a measure of racial integration in a particular area.
And I realized that the combo of green(black folk) and blue(white folk) makes a yellowish color which is hard to see. However, a combo of red(asian folk) and blue(white folk) makes a purplish color which is easier to see. And with orange(hispanic) looking similar to yellow and similar to brown(other race) a lot of these single race AND "combo" colors are actually very hard to resolve. So, r/design what 5 colors would you use to optimize intelligibility of the most combinations of colors in a map like this?
