How do you find work as a production designer? I'm not finding much...

I work as a senior production designer/product photographer and illustrator. I am out of work after being laid off from my last job a few months ago. I'm in California.

I'm getting into the job search, and I am noticing very little in the way of available positions in my lines of work.

How are people getting work? creativeheads.net is finding VERY little in my area. I have not found much else in the way of word-of-mouth and online.

Is there a current successful way to find work that I may not be aware of since I have not had to search in several years? Are most people working through contracting agencies now?

Need help choosing a Drawing Tablet for 2D and 3D work.

Sorry if this is not the place to ask, if there is a better place I would be very appreciative for any help in that!

So I started University recently for Animation Art and for that course we will need to get ourselves a drawing tablet. Currently it's for 2D based art however my personal preference is with 3D and that will be what we will be working on staring the second half of the course and the following years.

We have been told to get as close to A4 as possible and if possible get one with a screen. Although due to the amount of brands and costs I have no idea what's best suited for me or what's worth its cost.

I'm also living in the UK so getting anything over seas will be difficult due to the mafia known as the royal mail.

my budget can go up to about £600 but I'd rather avoid paying as much as that if possible, though I understand having a screen plays a large part in its cost.

Help needed for girlfriend

Hey guys sorry if this in anyway breaks this subs rules I’m new here and just need some help from you kind folks. My girlfriend is in her last design class and she has to come up with an idea of a building that can revitalize a country’s downtown area. It’s a building basically that gets people to go to the downtown area again. Her idea just got rejected a week before her deadline and she’s freaking out. Breaking out of being a "good" designer to a "great" designer?

My professor Rayce just gave a fantastic speech about how "good" designers see other people's problems and come up with solutions for them (whether it's in the entertainment industry or elsewhere), and they get the jobs as graphic designers, 3D modelers, people like that. But "great" designers see things that nobody else does. They're the ones who start as 3D modelers/graphic designers and then make their way to the top of the industry, being lead developers, coming up with all sorts of cool things.

He said, "What happens when you go out there looking for a job, and your portfolio looks the same as everybody else's? What happens when you realize that you're stuck in the same place for the rest of your life? How do you break out of that?"

​

I'm curious what other people have experienced in this area and how you can change from being a "good" designer to a "great" designer...because I'm pretty stressed and scared now.

ISO a site like Issuu, but for bifold brochures.

Hi folks! I have a client who would like to create an interactive, "3D-ish" mockup similar to what Issuu provides, but instead of a magazine with several pages, it's a set of bifold brochures. Their current print brochures have a tiered effect on the right side, so the bottom document is the smallest in size and gradually increases. They would like the user to be able to click on the tab and open the bifold to see the content inside. This is a very rough mockup I did to further illustrate what they're looking for, but they're specifically looking for an interactive model in which "the page would flip and make a 'whoosh' noise."

I highly doubt that there's a tool that exists for this very specific use, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask around. Does anyone know of a site or template that could do this without having to have it custom programmed?

TL:DR; looking for a interactive mockup like Issuu, but for bifolds instead of a magazine.

I have about a B+ level of vector design skills. Where are good places to look for someone who can polish up the design I've made? I looked into Fiverr (I know...) but I'm not sure how trustworthy the people on the other end are. 99Design is more for outsourcings the concepts, too. [Tablets] Need tablet suggestions

Hi all, at the moment I'm using a really old Trust widescreen tablet, and it's frankly way overdue for a replacement, it lags, the pen sensibility is all over the place, and I'm generally unhappy with the performance

Now, I have a budget of around 100€ with shipping (ideally less than 90), and am looking into a tablet suited for casual use
