learning materials for general furniture or product design

i apologize ahead of time if this isn't the right sub to be asking this but does anyone have resources for learning about furniture or product design?

im currently taking a CADD cert at my local junior college in the hopes that a little bit of solidworks, inventor, and autocad get me some sort of job prospects.

i like to make furniture in my spare time and im hoping that helps down the line as far as jobs go. that being said id like to know if there is a book or two about general interior designs and or furniture design aspects to beef up my knowledge on eras and/or important designers.
