Cover letter...too long to fit with the same layout as resume. Help!

Not a professional graphic designer here. Creating a 2-column resume to submit for a project management role at a creative agency.

My problem: - length of my cover letter in a traditional letter layout is fine. It’s within one page and the paragraphs aren’t heavy blocks of text, so it looks easy to read from a glance - When I try to fit the content cover letter into the 2-column design, the letter goes over to the second page.

Tried playing with font size (still didn’t work even if font size 8 pt is acceptable), margins and line spacing (single line does work, but doesn’t seem like it’s as easy to read. 1.5 pt is good, but doesn’t fit in 1 page)

I don’t know how people can manage to fit their cover letter into a 2-column design..

Is it ok to abandon the 2 column design and just keep the top section (to be the same as the resume)?
