Would you recommend putting your degree on Business cards?

Hi there,

I'm a multimedia artist and designer who's capable in a variety of fields including video production, graphic design, and interactive design. I've mentioned a few of these in taglines on my business card. Recently, I just got my Master of Arts and I'm almost out of old business cards so I'm revisiting the design and content of my card to print new ones.

I was wondering if there's any benefit to finding space to mention my MA (and maybe even my BFA) on my Business Card. Considering that I'm listing my attributes already on my card, I'm worried it may be far too busy, design wise. Where do people typically mention it (Like putting MA in bold beside the name)? Is it tacky? What's everyone's thoughts on this?

Help getting consistent colors across windows & mac computers - Whats your technique or monitor suggestion?

Trying to get consistent colors has been an ongoing challenge for me so I wanted to see if any of you guys had an monitor recommendations or color setting tweaks that could help. At work I work off an iMac and at home I work off my windows 10 gaming rig. The problem is I feel like I've never been able to trust my windows machine's colors. I feel like I've tried tweaking the windows calibration tool & the actual monitor setting hundreds of times but the colors never feel right. 90% of the stuff I make is meant to be digital so I'm more worried about how it looks on screen than a print out. Most of the time if I start something on my windows computer and open it on my work Mac the contrast seems way low and the color shift isn't right. With that in mind I've tried correcting it with settings but they never seem to match up to how the images look on my iMac / iPhone / iPad.

I feel like my monitor is middle of the road on quality its a ASUS VE247H: http://ift.tt/1XqQOVJ I'm starting to shop around for a new home monitor so if you guys have experience with any monitors that have a very consistent look to an iMac I would love your suggestions. Bonus points if they're also good for gaming, but I'm not as picky about that.

I would also love to hear any tips & tricks you all might have for color calibrating windows computers.

How do you feel about fads and trends? Also: know any examples where they were used really well?

For example, I'm seeing those splash screens you scroll off of into the content EVERYWHERE. Also huge vertical-parallax single-pagers. Etc.

Part of me knows popular things are popular for a reason, but part of me also knows that, often, that reason is shit.

The other day I realized that if your website is one big collection of trends and fads, it means you basically care more about fitting in than standing out...but then again, if I came across a site that just rejected any trend at all that wasn't 100% the most practical idea, I'd think the designer had a superiority complex.

Thoughts?

EDIT: Oh, right - can you think of anywhere that a trend was used really well, or subverted in a clever way, or something? Or - a site that NEEDED that fad, nothing else would work?

Should I take on a job I'm not certain I can do?

A longtime family friend works for a company which needs a redesign, and he knows I've decided to pursue web design, so he put in a good word for me and they're expecting my portfolio. Problem is, while I've been messing around with websites for years, I only decided to dedicate myself to it a few months ago, and I'm...I'm good, but not big-important-company thousands-of-pageviews-a-month good, by a long shot. (I know thousands/month isn't really 'big and important' but keep in mind I'm 21 and still often go days without doing dishes. I usually do little 5-page portolios for friends)

He's already recommended me, though, and I don't want to let him down where he's already extended his neck for me! Also, part of me wants to rise to this challenge and meet it - how hard can it be to teach myself in time? I have free time and access to the internet! I could conceivably teach myself what I need to know and put together a matching portfolio in a caffeinated haze of a week.

Any advice really appreciated. I feel like a cartoon character who's about to look down and discover they've ran off a cliff.
