How does a newbie designer grow up to be like one of those kickass dribble designers/illustrators?

I guess the title explains it all, but for a little background, I'm a CS Student who's much fascinated with the design of everyday things, the UI/UX of apps and websites, the creative marketing campaigns, the clever brandings etc. Following this interest, I started with designs a year or two back (they were shitty of course if I look at them today). I had started with both AI and PS but went ahead with PS more because it seemed easy to follow. Now coming to the present day, I know my way very well with PS, although the fact that it's raster-based is a pain in the ass sometimes but I'm able to work my way around that. I cannot create anything sophisticated but I can use already available stock resources to create some good designs be it an event poster, some small cafe's business card or stuff. I cannot create illustrations on my own, at least not yet. And for that, I've been wanting to pick up Illustrator again where I left it because it seems very essential to learn and I want to do that but then I look at all the illustrators I see on Dribble, Behance and I can't seem to wrap my head around HOW they create things so beautiful. With all my "design sense" I couldn't imagine the things they create, let alone draw them out in Illustrator.

So this HOW has been bugging me lately and finally, I decided I'd ask around here: HOW does one get to be that good of an illustrator/designer? Is everyone shitty at first and gets better with practice or does it need some special inborn drawing talents? Does it need formal education to be that good? How can I become like those guys?
