I'd like to preface this by say I have no formal photoshop training. I actually hadn't used photoshop until working arduously on this edit of a character-design/illustration. I have been a GIMP user for the last 13.5 years, but realized today there is no ellipse tool, which was integral to my success here.
Without further adieu, here is the original post. I must warn you, your brain will have trouble questioning whether this minimalistic man's torso is too long, or his arms too short. Some people adept, smart, visionary people voiced this criticism on the original post.
I must say I would rather no one be offended, I myself have a longer than average torso, relatively. There is nothing wrong with that. No matter how much you get made fun of for it. No matter how many times you can't help plumber's crack because the shirt companies marginalize us too; we all can't be Svetlana Pankratova. If you have short arms, however, you can go the way of your cousin the t-rex.
Back to the Art! The tool I used was photoshop CS6, specifically:
- Move Tool
- Elliptical Marquee Tool
- Eraser Tool
- Some genius work with the Ellipse tool
- Duplicate Layer functions
- Horizontal Type Tool
- Various overlays
I also used various color overlays. I also made a couple other changes that I won't explain that hopefully you'll see, there's a term in french for something unexpected in art that we use in the biz that I tried to apply here called, "Terme français pour quelque chose d'inattendu dans l'art". My art is full of it.
Finally, here is my edit. Notice the belt, the reuse of the shirt line for easy discernment of pant-legs. I'm sure your eye was also drawn to the pockets of the pants. Simple ellipses with so much impact, which is what this minimalist art is all about. Here is a side-by-side comparison, notice any other Terme français pour quelque chose d'inattendu dans l'art that just pulls the whole new look together?
Don't discount us, the editors of other's hard work. Imagine if mozart had photoshop.
