It's been 15 years for me and Adobe. The relationship was rocky sometimes, it was the only option around and it got the job done most of the times (unless it decided to crash on me). Things got really sour after Adobe introduced their nasty cloud subscription model. Ok, each on their own, but not having a choice in that matter is restrictive and limiting, knowing that what you pay for isn't really "yours" is disturbing.
Being a bit of a linux geek, I have hoped to be able find some open source alternatives... I tried, I really wanted to give them a chance, but none of the programs provided me the what I needed to get my job done properly.
Then I stumbled upon Affinity. I've tried Affinity Designer and Photo and I must admit it got me a bit excited. Now mind you, it's not at that level I need it to be just yet, but I hope it will get there soon. I'll have a shot or two if I can finally dump Adobe in the trash. So what are your thoughts on this? Do you think Affinity can kick Adobe's ass? They cost a fraction of the price, I wouldn't even mind paying a bit more if they get the functionality that Adobe has. I think it would be nice to use something new.
