Does group brainstorming really work?

Usually when I brainstorm, I want to be away from others.

Group brainstorming, I usually find a waste of time. It seems so that there have been some studies to show how useful it really is. In groups you have to deal with other people, strong personalities, and people who are to shy to speak their mind, thus their ideas get unheard, though maybe they could have the golden egg.

I suppose it highly depends on the group too. It would work in an utopian setting, where everyone would follow the principles perfectly, though few will really do so.

There's some interesting research on this too: http://ift.tt/2zTMMLJ

What do you think of this?
