To those who are/have been hiring design managers— How do you feel about ambitious candidates applying for a job that is LESS than advertised? (In this case: you are looking for Sr. lvl designer, but I still want to send my resume and portfolio to see if you would take me in as a Jr.)

Sorry for the confusing title, I tried to be as descriptive as possible, but english is not my first language and I didn’t know how else to word what I’m looking to get insight about. I hope it made sense though.

If my title was clear enough to you: Would you consider bringing me in for an interview for a lesser role if my resume and portfolio wowed you?

Some context:

I have been keeping my eye on this one specific company ever since I graduated school with a major in graphic design. Working for that company is my dream job.

Recently they put out a role for Sr. Graphic Designer (7+ yrs experience, able to lead junior designers, etc)— but knowing that they are looking for help within the design department (albeit a lot more experienced designer than I currently am), is it frown down upon to take a gamble and inquire about a *potential* junior role?

Essentially you can interpret this at “Hi, I’m not what you’re looking for, but I love everything about your company and I’d love to work for you even though I don’t have experience in abc, but I can offer my talents with xyz – would you give me a chance?!” kinda deal. Beg-y, desperate, "why is this person even bothering"? Yeah. I’d probably try to craft my inquiry to sound less desperate, but the intention stands constant: please consider me?

So please give me insights on what you think of it. Be brutally honest. Do you roll your eyes and my inquiry goes straight to the trash? Do you store my information to some file for future hires? Given theoretically if you like my resume and portfolio, of course— how do you react?
