When saving an image from Photoshop, save for web optimization. Ctrl+alt+shift+s. Im sure it's common knowledge, but somehow I missed that boat and I post this hoping to help others who have as well.
In short, it will remove all unnecessary metadata that Photoshop injects when saving files.
I have found that it commonly reduces image files to 1/5, up to ~1/30th their initial size.
