I'm not sure whether to place this here or in /r/mentalillness, but I have a huge problem.
I have great visions about an international web project. I know what to write about, I know how the site should look, I know everything and I strongly believe the site will be awesome.
The tiny problem is that the domain name is close to impossible to be happy with. I can't simply take something and go with it, because - as you know - the process of changing domain is tedious and it also ruins everything for your visitors, SEO, etc. So no, not gonna do that. I have to find something I'm really happy with.
But it's always the same thing. I brainstorm, keep a few domains I think are okay, and then pick the one I like the best. Sometimes I really like it. But after about 24 hours I think it sounds dumb. Every time. This COULD be due to what's called semantic satiation (you know, when you say a word too many times it starts to sound weird and unreal, right?).
I guess the whole thing is some mental thing, that I have a hard time accepting the name since I have to go with it, and therefore it needs to be the most ultimate domain name ever created (which isn't easy since most good names are taken). So how can I get over this? I need all your tips.
The bonus question: What do you think is the best approach for a name? For example, a site about games. Should you:
-
Take a name that reflects the content of the site? For example: GameFlare.com, GameStrike.com, Game99.com
-
Take something you just think sounds cool? For example: MagicLamp.com, Firestorm.com, Manabeam.com
-
Take something shor and unrelated, but memorable: For example: Hypify.com, Surfacetom.com, Hellohey.com
Thanks alot for your help!
