Any design job I can get in order to get more experience?

I'm a design major on my second year in a four year college. I'm planning on quitting my current job, as I feel like I'm wasting my time, and I could be designing and getting experience instead. I'm interested in printing and binding, and I went to Staples to apply but decided against it because of how dreadful my printing/biding experience was there. Are there any good places to apply for a person in my level of experience?

Any design jobs I can get to get more experience?

I'm currently a design major in college, and I'm wondering if there are any places I can work at to get more experience? I'm tired of my current job, as I feel like I'm wasting my time, and could be designing and getting experienced instead. I'm only 2 years into a 4 year college. Are there any places I could work at that'll benefit me? I'm interested in printing, but places like staples is a no go cause they don't know what they're doing.

What Do Fellow Graphic Designers Think About My Portfolio And Projects

I hope to work my way up from Junior to Senior and then a Creative or Art Director sometime in the future, but I want to know if I have the potential for that. I was wondering if my fellow graphic designer can look over the projects on my portfolio site and let me know if you guys think I'm a good designer with the potential to one day work his way up the ladder to a Creative or Art Director. Please be as honest as possible. Thank you.

I Was Wondering What Professional Graphic Designers Think About My Portfolio And Projects

Just a heads up I just graduated from college so all of my work is student work and I'm in the process of applying for in-house or agency design jobs. My goal is to hopefully work my way up from Junior to Senior and then become a Creative or Art Director, but first I want to know if I have the potential for that. I was wondering if my fellow graphic designer can look over all of my projects on my portfolio site and let me know if you guys think I'm a good designer with the potential to one day work his way up the ladder to a Creative or Art Director or do I have not a chance in the world of making it in the design industry. Please be as honest as possible. I already posted my portfolio site on another design critique sub and want to know what more people think about it. Here we go :D

Examples Human Centered Design?

For school we've a project to create a human centered design. We have to research a certain neighborhood, do street-interviews and find problems on racism, emancipation, discrimination, etc.

This problem must then be translated into a product, which will try to minimize those problems in the given neighborhood. This product must connect people in a meaningful way.

My question: Do you know of any of these kind of products that already exist?

Services trade tracking document

Okay designers! I need your help because I'm at a loss for the best possible way my document can function. It doesn't have to be pretty (although it will be) and I need to create it in excel/google sheets so customisation will be somewhat limited.

Basically, I work as a freelancer outside of my standard 9-5pm job for extra cash. I have an awesome client who is a personal trainer and brings me in a fair haul of work. Without him I'd have to market myself a shit ton more.

As I want to get fit, we've come up with a weekly trade off. He gives me 2 PT sessions and in return I give him 2.5hrs of design work. This is based off our individual hourly rates.

I need to create a document to track this, as although his 2 PT sessions will be standard each week, my design hours may fluctuate. He might need 4hrs on a given week but then 1hr the next.

So it's all even Stevens, I want to create a document to share between us. So far I've mocked up this (styling to be done). However it doesn't really facilitate a variable week - only the standard 2.5hrs.

If anyone has thoughts on how the document could function better or if you've seen something similar I'd love to hear.

How do you trade your designs without beeing told "i don't want to get scammed"? Im just tired of beeing treated like a shit as a Designer who is working hard to make his customers happy.

This is how i trade my Designs (im just offering some on my free time on forums etc)

Before i even start with the design i tell them that this is the way im doing the trades:

  • He sends me a trade request.

  • I show him the Design they wanted with my watermark (assuring i actualy did finish it and its how he wanted it)

  • He sends me the money.

  • I give him the Design without any watermarks.

Now my problem is that some people accuse me that i might scam them if they go first. How is that even possible when they have just seen the finished work? Why would i waste hours to finish something and not give it to them in the end? Then they either tell me that they won't trade me at all or that i have to go first.

So far there have been no real problems (luckily). But how do you deal with people resisting or suddenly changing the trade? The work is done, they just changed the terms (there is no contract or something, its just skype chat etc.) and im stuck between going first and risking not seeing any money or not not trading at all which sucks after i already finished the design that im not stuck with and would have no use for.

Im just tired of beeing treated like shit. How can someone like me, who sells designs as a hobby on the side, assure that people don't pull that shit on me anymore? Are there simple copy/paste contracts that have some legal basis to back me up? How do YOU handle hard customers and how/when do you talk about money. Maybe you can go through your whole process from start to end with how you handle your customers and designs.

Storyboarding workflow/best practices?

Hey everyone, long time lurker very infrequent poster here.

Now I've been storyboarding for years and always found it a bit of a pain, (my least favourite part of any project) and just now started thinking that maybe it isn't really a pain, maybe there are just ways that I could be doing it better.

So to that end, I thought I'd ask you guys how your workflow/process for storyboards generally works. Anything you feel like sharing would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Where to hire mobile designers?

I am looking to hire several mobile designers for my firm over the next few months. I have had great luck with Stack Overflow for engineers but I have no earthly idea where to hire experienced designers. The positions are US based, remote, and 6 figures in pay.

Where are you all looking for jobs? What are the good boards and the ones to avoid? I want to avoid the hassle of digging through Dribble by hand and emailing people who may or may not be interested in a job especially with several positions that need to be filled.

Why Wacom?

Sorry for yet another "which graphic tablet to buy" post but I'm researching budget tablets (applying for design school but broke af, hence the budget) and am not really satisfied with the recommendations I found in older posts here. Please point me in the right direction should I have overlooked a sticky, wiki or sub for this topic.

Anyways, I get that Wacom is the industry standard and high-end $1000+ Wacoms are the best but in the sub $200 price range, they seem way overpriced to me. Why get a small Intuos or Bamboo when I can get a larger e.g. Huion or X-Pen with

  • double the resolution

  • double the pressure sensitivity

  • and more keys

for the same or less money? I'm specifically looking at the Huion New 1060 Plus. Basically already decided to buy it, unless you guys can convince me not to.

So why do you guys still recommend low-end Wacoms over semi-pro [insert other brand name]? Is there a specific reason? Are they more comfortable to use even with lower specs? Is it the software? The multi-touch capability? Just the name? I never tried any tablets so I'm lacking the experience, that's why I'm asking you guys. Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: Why the instant downvote? This is an honest question. Just trying to get answers I couldn't find after hours of research.

Terminology Question (Very Stupid)

Hey, I apologize for the stupidity of this question, but I didn't know where else to ask. If a designer was looking to showcase their work on some computer screens sitting on nice desks, what exactly would be a search term for this? To clarify, I'm looking for some premade nice scenery to showcase work, similar to the way I would photoshop UX design into a premade iPhone psd file. I'm basically looking for some clean modern photos of computers at various work stations.

Colour halftone RGB to CMYK conversion

Hi designers, I was wondering if anyone's come across a way to achieve greater colour range in CMYK by using dithering. Theoretically it should be possible right? I found an interesting article about it but nothing yet as far as actual implementation goes (actual method in photoshop, automatic processes, printer settings that approximate it, etc.). Is there a way to incorporate it into one's workflow, perhaps like a Photoshop filter with adjustable resolution or something like that. Let me know please, it would be much appreciated!
