What are simple automated systems for getting client referrals?

Hi, All. I am trying to build a web design freelance business. I know the importance of getting referrals, but now I am trying to set up some simple automated systems to capture referrals.

Here's what I've thought of so far: 1. Set up social sharing links on customer receipts (and other email newsletter communications) 2. Set up calendar reminders to re-contact former clients every 3 months or so

Pretty basic, I know! What else has worked well for you?
