Are there noticeable differences in web design trends in different language groups on the web (e.g. English, Chinese, Arabic)?

Since most English-speaking people would never really spend time browsing Chinese or Arabic sites, they might diverge in popular styles. It would be cool to see what popular differences there are.

What I'm about to say is a huge simplification, but back in psychology we learned that Eastern cultures sometimes look at things more holistically, while Western cultures tend to look more at independent parts. So an Eastern 'beautiful' garden would consist of a lot of smaller plants complementing one another (example), while a Western 'beautiful' garden would show off independent 'beautiful' plants (example). Now that's just a first thought, maybe it's a really bad one, but I'm curious at what possible differences are. I guess for Arabic sites you'd have to design based on reading right-to-left, but maybe there are other aspects we never realize because we never browse around Arabic sites.
