In my experience with many years in the music business I've learned a lot about people and their proclivities. I've learned how sometimes people will "forget" about paying a bill. Believe me, I don't forget!
I've got a client who is leaving for the "land of the free...student labor" scenario. They've left an outstanding invoice for a couple of months unbeknownst before I began this final project and my partner said she has always had a hard time collecting from this individual.
So as a measure to protect his site against hackers, I installed a .htaccess file that blocks any attempt to enter the /administrator area of the site. It merely bounces the person back to the main domain name. No harm, no foul.
So when this person pays their final tab I will go in and make certain to enter their IP address as a "trusted" source.
In other words, "the car is in their driveway", but I have the keys to drive it.
Not sure the legalities of this... but hey! It's a way to keep out hackers, right? ;)
