Band Logo Help

So as the title suggests I was hoping for some suggestions on my band logos design. Really anything that could improve it or make it more visually appealing. Also which color combination should we use? http://ift.tt/1R2WgdD

I'm learning web development on Khan Academy. Should I switch over to codecademy?

I've noticed that pretty much everyone in their mother uses and recommends codecademy. I'm about 2/3rds of the way through the Khan Academy HTML/CSS lesson (http://ift.tt/1F88Org) Just starting the "CSS Layout" section.

I mean it's not bad. I'm using sublime-text 2 to build my own examples of things instead of just going through the lessons and forgetting them. I did take a glance at the javascript lesson in Khan Academy and found it to be kind of amateurish, like it focused on animation instead of actual functional coding, but I'm not there yet.

Should I continue or switch over? If so what would be a good jump off point from CodeCademy seeing that I already know a lot of the absolute beginner stuff.

Looking for Direction

Hello, I apologize in advance as I am sure this type of question gets asked at least 1200 times a day. I have little to no experience in webdesign (took an HTML class in college back in 2008, dont remember any of it) and I am looking to learn how to design a page. More specifically let me explain my motivation so that you may better pinpoint what language(s) I need to be studying.

I was granted a very generous scholarship from a very small foundation for this next semester of college. The founder of the organization expressed a need for a website, and to show my gratitude I would love to be able to repay his/their kindness by building them a website for their organization.

From what I have read thus far, the idea I am getting is that HTML and CSS is mainly what I need to be focused on. Are there other platfroms/languages you would recommend to make a decent looking webpage? Thanks in advance for the help and happy new year.

TL;DR - Want to learn to build websites so I can build a page for an foundation that gifted me a scholarship.

I am looking for someone with a lot of experience in face swapping with photoshop to hire for a bunch of projects?

I have a bunch of photos that I need face swapping work done with photo shop. These will be paid jobs. I am just looking for somebody who is reliable, professional and great at what they do and will pay well for a job well done.

For whatever reason my posts kept getting caught in the spam filter on r/photoshoprequest and the mods don't respond so, figured I'd try here.

Payment via whatever method you'd prefer.

Thanks in advance and looking forward to establishing a mutually beneficially working relationship with a photoshop pro.

Help an untrained visual designer work more efficiently and use Photoshop's 'Linked Smart Object' feature

(Bear with me, I need to establish some context :D)

I'm a visual designer who primarily deals with UI/UX for a web startup. I've created a basic UI kit (as one massive .PSD) and generally design individual web pages via photoshop (e.g. Homepage, User Profile, Settings page, etc.) with assets duplicated-in from the UI kit document. Then, front-end developers (I don't write any code) are tasked with bringing the designs to life. I'm self-taught and while I try to be as organized as possible, being a one-trick pony isn't easy, so I need some help!

I recently watched this video on Photoshop's 'Linked Smart Object' feature --and it seems like it could be a magical solution for keeping all the UI I've strewn about numerous documents up-to-date as I make any adjustments within the master UI kit. However, I don't think my current layer organization scheme really lends itself to this feature. I'm not worried about retroactively linking all the old UI I've used throughout various documents, but I would like to prime my UI Kit document to utilize this feature, for the sake of any future page designs I need to do.

With that said, here's how I currently organize assets in my UI kit:

  • All categories of UI are relegated to a handful of labeled smart objects (ex.http://ift.tt/1mTHcSR] )
  • Each smart object contains a handful of layer groups which organize the various states, colors, sizes, etc. of a given UI element design. (ex. http://ift.tt/1mTHaKO] )

  • When I need an asset for a new design, I open the UI kit .PSD, navigate to the smart object UI category, open the smart object, expand the layer group, and duplicate the layer/layer group I need into the working document. That's it.

My concerns:

  • How to utilize the 'Linked Smart Objects' feature for my purposes?
  • Is my existing organization scheme inefficient already, regardless of the LSO feature?
  • Is is bad that I'm converting entire categories of UI elements to smart objects? I got the idea in order to reduce performance problems with the massive UI Kit document--but perhaps SO's should be used at a more granular level within the hierarchy?

Open to any manner of suggestions/advice/examples, thanks!

Hello, beginner here with a beginner question

Hello, I recently learnt HTML, CSS and JavaScript (with jQuery) from Codecademy. My fundamentals are not exactly strong, so I decided to try to find a website and try to make it myself.

I stumbled upon http://jonchretien.com/ which looked like a not-too-hard website too me. I got as far as doing the basic until I had to make the grid-unit boxes towards the bottom. Links to what I wrote:

Bootstrap / JS based page has me confused, need help sorting it out / accessing html

So firstly thanks for taking the time to read this, it's much appreciated. So I'm working on a site for my employer, and the page in question is a JS-driven map to find electric car charging stations (this is proving to be problematic, as I'm not super fluent in .js), when I take a look at the .html page, there are a bunch of elements I don't recognize, and I cannot for the life of me find where I can edit the HTML elements, as they seem to be pulled from elsewhere. Here is the HTML in question,

<!DOCTYPE html> <html lang="en"> <head> <!-- Meta Tags --> <meta charset="utf-8"> <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge"> <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1, maximum-scale=1"> <meta name="description" content="Find electric vehicle charging station using ChargeHub's simple and powerful map."> <meta name="author" content="ChargeHub"> <meta name="apple-itunes-app" content="app-id=548640732"> <meta http-equiv="cache-control" content="max-age=0" /> <meta http-equiv="cache-control" content="no-cache" /> <meta http-equiv="expires" content="0" /> <meta http-equiv="expires" content="Tue, 01 Jan 1980 1:00:00 GMT" /> <meta http-equiv="pragma" content="no-cache" /> <link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://ift.tt/1OmYMc8; /> <link rel="apple-touch-icon-precomposed" sizes="57x57" href="http://ift.tt/1OuE45N; /> <link rel="apple-touch-icon-precomposed" sizes="114x114" href="http://ift.tt/1OmYJx8; /> <link rel="apple-touch-icon-precomposed" sizes="72x72" href="http://ift.tt/1OuE45P; /> <link rel="apple-touch-icon-precomposed" sizes="144x144" href="http://ift.tt/1OmYMcc; /> <link rel="apple-touch-icon-precomposed" sizes="60x60" href="http://ift.tt/1OuE4my; /> <link rel="apple-touch-icon-precomposed" sizes="120x120" href="http://ift.tt/1OmYMce; /> <link rel="apple-touch-icon-precomposed" sizes="76x76" href="http://ift.tt/1OuE45R; /> <link rel="apple-touch-icon-precomposed" sizes="152x152" href="http://ift.tt/1OmYJxa; /> <link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="http://ift.tt/1OuE4CQ; sizes="196x196" /> <link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="http://ift.tt/1OmYJNq; sizes="96x96" /> <link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="http://ift.tt/1OuE45Z; sizes="64x64" /> <link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="http://ift.tt/1OmYJNs; sizes="48x48" /> <link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="http://ift.tt/1OuE463; sizes="32x32" /> <link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="http://ift.tt/1OmYMci; sizes="24x24" /> <link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="http://ift.tt/1OuE4CY; sizes="16x16" /> <link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="http://ift.tt/1OmYMck; sizes="128x128" /> <meta name="msapplication-square70x70logo" content="http://ift.tt/1OmYMcm; /> <meta name="msapplication-square150x150logo" content="http://ift.tt/1OuE4D4; /> <meta name="msapplication-wide310x150logo" content="http://ift.tt/1OmYMsA; /> <meta name="msapplication-square310x310logo" content="http://ift.tt/1OuE71r; /> <meta name="msapplication-TileColor" content="#ffffff"/> <title>ChargeHub - Charging Stations Map</title> <!-- CSS Links --> <!-- Bootstrap core CSS --> <link href="/css/bootstrap.css" rel="stylesheet"> <link href="/css/style.css" rel="stylesheet"> <link href="/css/bootstrap-social.css" rel="stylesheet"> <link href="/css/font-awesome.css" rel="stylesheet"> <link href="/css/docs.css" rel="stylesheet" > <link href="/css/bootstrap-dialog.min.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <link href="/css/slider.css" rel="stylesheet" > <!-- Custom CSS styles --> <link href="/css/CustomStyles.css" rel="stylesheet" > <!-- Sidebar css --> <link href="css/simple-sidebar.css" rel="stylesheet"> <!-- blueimp css --> <link rel="stylesheet" href="//blueimp.github.io/Gallery/css/blueimp-gallery.min.css"> <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/bootstrap-image-gallery.min.css"> <!-- Custom Css --> <style> .searchdisp{ width:auto; padding:10px;} .searchdisp li{ width:100%; border-bottom:1px solid #CCCCCC; list-style:none;} .search-suggest{z-index: 2; position: absolute; top: 79px; left: 10px; background-color:#FFFFFF; max-height:300px; overflow-y:scroll; display:none;} </style> <!-- Google Analytics --> <script> (function(i,s,o,g,r,a,m){i['GoogleAnalyticsObject']=r;i[r]=i[r]||function(){ (i[r].q=i[r].q||[]).push(arguments)},i[r].l=1*new Date();a=s.createElement(o), m=s.getElementsByTagName(o)[0];a.async=1;a.src=g;m.parentNode.insertBefore(a,m) })(window,document,'script','//www.google-analytics.com/analytics.js','ga'); ga('create', 'UA-54045720-1', 'auto'); ga('send', 'pageview'); </script>

How much work is it to redesign a blog?

Hi everybody out there!

I somehow "inherited" an entertainment blog (wordpress) that has quite a good amount of visitors/impression.

To keep up with time I want to give it a facelift.

It is obvious that I cannot do this myself.

From what I understand there are several steps:

  1. get new design from a designer (Designer)
  2. implement said design in a wordpress theme (WP Programmer)
  3. migrate blog from old to new design (WP Programmer?)

Am I missing out something? How much work is it to get the design into a wordpress theme? How much work is it to migrate the blog?

Thank you !

Video background (hero) with fallback image support

What's the best way of approaching this? It's doesn't appear to be as easy as just using an image when the video tag isn't supported, because some browsers support the video tag but not autoplay. I remember trying to implement this and kept running into support issues.

Please… anymore…

Do you know why Photoshop insists on changing my font sizes into decimals. It's driving me crazy.

Looking for computer network diagram inspiration

I frequently need to design network diagrams for training material and have a hard time finding anything other than engineer-drawn diagrams with stock icons. Amazon is the only one I can find that looks great, but I also don't want to copy one style too much.

Anyone have any beautiful network diagrams to share?

When should I show my skills to potential employers?

Hi guys, finishing up an associates and wondering when its time to show what I have learned to employers. I am working on my portfolio and resume now while simultaneously going over sites I made and giving them polish, which they all need. Here is my skeleton(if that) WIP portfolio. This is probably my most complete site. Am I getting there? There just seems to be an overwhelming amount of things to learn.

When showing your portfolio, were people more interested in your real life work or your conceptual pieces?

In my 8+ years of professional experience, I have always held the believe that purely conceptual work always wins out in the end. This is because it is a reflection of you and your personal thought process. But I'm curious to see if anyone has had a different experience. I know it really depends on the audience or job you're looking for, so if you have any stories, please do share!

Is there a way to use Chrome developer tools to test how your page is rendered in other browsers?

I have heard my browser has problems in Internet Explorer. But, I am on a mac and can only see that problems exist, but I don't know how to track down where the problem is originating. It would be great if I could do it all in Chrome using their tools. But, I am not sure it is possible.

What service to use for hosting a simple business website?

I'm making a website for my family in law who run a business in Latin America helping customers with government permits.

They would like a simple website listing their services, with a contact form to request quotes for services. If they are going to register their own domain name, I thought it would be good to tie in an email account under the domain too.

They travel around the city a lot so it would be good to have an email service that is easily accessible i.e. from the 'Mail' app on the iPhone.

I thought it would be a good idea to use the Wordpress engine to allow the family in law to easily change text on the website and add content.

With these requirements can anyone recommend a really good domain-broker/hosting (with Wordpress)/email hosting site? I would be inclined to use One.com, but I'm not too familiar with the cutting edge of web design.
