When showing your portfolio, were people more interested in your real life work or your conceptual pieces?

In my 8+ years of professional experience, I have always held the believe that purely conceptual work always wins out in the end. This is because it is a reflection of you and your personal thought process. But I'm curious to see if anyone has had a different experience. I know it really depends on the audience or job you're looking for, so if you have any stories, please do share!
