Professors are telling me to purchase an Apple computer for graphic design, I want to build a powerhouse of a PC. What are your personal opinions?

I'm a graphic design major, third year currently. My professors really, really want me to invest in an iMac or a Macbook. Their arguments are:

  • Adobe products were initially programmed for Apple software, so it runs smoother on Apple computers.
  • Apple computers have much more color accurate displays.

However, I don't know how accurate or unbiased their views are and I've been wanting to build my own PC for a while now. I do some video-work, and would like to be able to run high-end games on a machine, so investing in a higher end PC feels like a better choice.

I have Adobe CC on my laptop and it runs okay, it's smooth most of the time but it tends to crash when my work gets just a little to busy. I'm not sure whether or not it's the power of my laptop or the program itself (probably the former.) I enjoy using the Apple computers at my school, Adobe products run insanely smooth on them and I have noticed color differences when transferring files from my PC to one of the school's computers.

Does anyone have experience with running Adobe products on high-end PCs? Is it comparable to the Apple/Adobe experience? I don't have a very strong bias either way, in my opinion Apple computers are great machines, they just seem overpriced for the hardware received. Thanks!
