[DISCUSSION] Mobile navigation on top or bottom of the screen?

Theorem: an app with navigation at the bottom of the screen is easier to use than an app with navigation at top of the screen.

If you look at highly popular apps like: Facebook, Whatsapp and soundcloud, the navigation is stuck on the bottom of the screen, only the "back" button is at the left top on IOS. Most android phones even have a native 'menu' and 'back' button just under the screen.

While the phones keep increasing in screen diameter, it is easier to have the navigation stuck at the bottom of the screen. A co-worker uses an iphone 6+ and he holds his phone in the center, instead of most people with their fingers at the bottom of the screen.

Thoughts?
