Issues with implementing Google Analytics Code in Magento

So, I recently started working at a new company and because now one else here can do it and the agency doing it in the past sucks, I am in charge of all web dev related things besides not being a web dev per se and having never worked with Magento before.

The site is: http://www.oelwerk.de/

It looks like Google Analytics stopped working mid-december. Weirdly enough, it still tracks some bots every couple of days but for most days, GA shows 0 traffic. However, we do get traffic and sales on the site. Realtime tracking doesn't work either.

So my questions are:

  • Any idea, why it stopped working suddenly (no major changes to the website have been made during that time period) ?
  • If possible, could you check pls whether the code itself is implemented correctly?
  • Apparently, the person that developed the shop put the code in the body tag. Where can I edit the html of these pages in order to remove the code?
  • Once I managed to remove the existing code, I would like to put it into the header. Is head.phtml the right place? Instructions tell me to put it before the closing tag, but in head.phtml I can only find some php lines.

Stupid questions probably, but I'd really appreciate it if s.o. could help me here. Tia
